In my first semester of Architecture + Design school, Professor Scott Shall stood before a wall of photographs and critiqued our work. He challenged us to focus on the details and to document our work in a way that tells the story. Day after day we attempted to master the task, realizing that photography is not only about documenting what the eye sees, but also forcing ourselves to see from a new perspective.

Two years later, I bought my first DSLR and began documenting the world around me. As we traveled throughout our architectural studies to a variety of cities and sites, I forced myself to step outside of what I thought I knew. Photography became an avenue for observing and documenting, a part of my design process and a way for me to see the world.

In graduate school, as we built the BeauSoleil Louisana Solar Home for UL Lafayette, documentation of our progress and the finished home served as a marketing tool for our fundraising and public outreach. After 2 years of working on the project, I walked the National Mall, recording HUGE strides in the areas of architecture and sustainability.

After the completion of my masters in architecture, photography became my life. Although most are familiar with my wedding photography as this occupies bulk of my business, I still spend much of my time shooting architecture and exploring with Brad (below). We spend our weekends and free time traveling to areas containing unique design and modern architecture.

I have been asked by Adam Foreman of Shadows on the Teche to lead a portion of their photography workshop on Saturday, July 9th. This section will focus on architectural photography and much of the session will take place outside, in the streets of Downtown New Iberia. This LIVE shooting event will begin in the Visitors Center at 12:00 and end at 1:15. SO……bring your cameras and come join us!!! πŸ™‚ I’d love to see you there!! The complete press release is below!

The Press Release for the Workshop can be found below:

These two images below were taken this past summer in Los Angeles, CA. I was hired by Designer Lisa Breaux to document 9 projects in the California area with her.

We’ll be discussing all types of architectural photography including photographing venues, homes, and professional projects.

Whether you are a Hobbyist, Amateur Photographer, or Experienced Professional Bring your Camera and your Passion!” – Adam Foreman, Shadows on the Teche
