Was this the dress you initially thought you’d wear for your
Definitely not! I always thought I would wear a gown with lace and beading and a tulle bottom that would be very flowy and not at all form fitting. However, when I tried on what I thought was my dream gown I felt like the dress was wearing me instead of me wearing the dress.
Tell Me About Your Dress! Why did you choose this look?
My best friend, Alexis, actually picked out my gown. I had tried on all the dresses at the store that I had picked out and we were about to leave and she said she wanted me to try on one more. I hated it on the hanger because it was so simple and form fitting but the second I put it on I knew it was the one. It was so different from everything else I had tried.
How do you feel when you put on your dress?
Elegant and bridal. I love the minimalist look to the gown. The crepe hugs and drapes in all the right places, but my favorite part is the dramatic cowl back and the lengthy train.
Why did you choose this particular bridal session location?
I had actually chosen another location when my mom showed me pictures of Afton Villa. I fell in love with the whimsical look of it and it was even beautiful in the winter when nothing was flowering, which was important since I took my pictures in February. Plus it had lots of Spanish moss in the trees which I loved! Needless to say, I knew I had to switch to this location. It’s a good thing Catherine is so flexible!
Any advice for future brides embarking on this wedding journey?
My best piece of advice is don’t sweat the small stuff and enjoy the chaos, because time flies. I felt like I heard that all the time when I first got engaged and I wanted to roll my eyes. But it’s so true! As are most brides I can be a little OCD. No, no one is going to care that the toasting flutes don’t match the cake servers (yes, I actually thought about this hah!). You’ll think back on it and laugh when you remember the 87 times you had to go to the post office for more stamps. The truth is your guests will only remember you and your new hubs had a wonderful time and looked so in love. When you find yourself overwhelmed just remember at the end of the day you’re getting married to the person you love and it’s only one day in your hopefully long life together. A very important day, yes. But one day and it goes by SO fast.
