Private Residence: Matt + Ashley

Six years ago after a long course of numbers and mathematics, she spotted him. It started without polite “Hellos” which turned into a study date (to look over math of course) and an incredible friendship. Over time, they’ve realized that not all times are good, but that life together, couldn’t be better.

Matt just wants Ashley to be happy. And over a year ago in Washington D.C. during Cherry Blossom season, he decided that he wanted to make her happy for the rest of their lives. “Every woman loves castles,” is what he said to me….so on that day, he kneeled in front of the Smithsonian and asked to become her Prince Charming….forever.

of the ideals of mutuality, companionship, intimacy, fidelity, and family…..”

These words were read at Ashley and Matt’s wedding last Saturday. The wedding was VERY intimate, with less than 35 in attendance, everyone was able to crowd around. The wedding was simple, yet elegant and carried this sentiment through to every detail in deep browns, reds, and gold.

When I pulled up, I was excited to see Ashley’s blue car in the front. SO cool…so I spent a little time grabbing some details like her adorable red shoes and their rings. And as Ashley put on her gown and glanced in the mirror for the first time, I think she also saw how beautiful we all think she is.

The preparation is one of my personal favorite times of the day…there’s a ton of excitement and nervousness. 🙂 🙂 🙂

And I also like to capture all the little intimate moments,

like when Ashley’s mom put on Ashley’s pearl bracelet just before the start of the ceremony.

The wedding was SO intimate….as soon as Matt saw Ashley and they shared that first glance, she continued up the aisle to greet him. When they turned to face one another, all of their closest friends and family literally stood and gathered around them. It was amazing!

I really like this tradition; it was the first time I had seen it.

After every honor of commitment to one another, they became more entwined in the ribbon.

Ashley + Matt wrote their own vows for the ceremony. And just as they began to read them to one another, it started to rain.

Seriously, does it get any more romantic than that?!!!!!!!!

Immediately following the ceremony, Ashley and Matt spent some time with me outside by the car.

But…from the looks of it, I don’t think they minded. 😉

The reception was dark and lit with lights strung overhead and candlelight.

Amongst the good food and creative decor was lots of laughter and friendship.

Ashley described the sit-down gathering as a “dinner theatre” that night :):):) lol….It was obvious everyone enjoyed being able to relax and enjoy one another’s company.

And as the rain continued to fill the skies, the kids found a way to enjoy it.

When the night came to a close, everyone said their goodbyes, and Ashley and Matt got ready for their one-on-one newlywed session at the Bed & Breakfast where they stayed that night. 🙂

When Ashley contacted me, we talked about creating images with an old-time feel. Which, if you follow my work is not the type of work I typically do (modern/editorial photography). HOWEVER, creating these images were a challenge a TON of fun! You both look like you just popped out of the 19th century.

So handsome. 🙂

When we came across this mirror with two old hats hanging on the mirror supports, I squealed. Literally. Like a little girl! I was SO excited.

I knew the only way we could REALLY pull this look off is if they REALLY got into character……………………….AND they DID!

………..in love all over again! Congratulations Ashley and Matt and thank you for the opportunity to capture a wedding so intimate. I feel like I knew every person there at the end of the night. Spending time with you guys at the Bed & Breakfast for your session was also a really big treat. I wish you both a long life of success and happiness together. 🙂 I hope the Matangi Resort in Fiji…(for adults only ;))…was as amazing as you envisioned. You deserve it.
