If you could sum up your wedding in two words, what would they be?
Chaotic and Magical
Tell us about your wedding venue(s) and why you chose to get married there.
il Mercato is the perfect blend of design and practicality, but also masculinity and femininity. The main dining space, the library bar, the arcade, and the courtyard all have their own personality, but blend so well together. I could not have dreamt up a more perfect venue!
What was your favorite wedding detail?
The cake topper! The cake topper was a wedding gift from one of Matthew’s groomsmen. He runs a 3D printing business and 3D printed us! Matthew always wanted to have a tie-dye suit and this was a perfect opportunity to tie-dye a suit…and show it off for the first time atop our wedding cake! We look forward to showing our children this one-of-a-kind figurine of the two of us!
What is your favorite wedding memory from the day?
Our first dance — being lifted into the air! We signed up for dancing lessons at New Orleans Dance Academy a few months before the wedding. We knew jumping up and down to our usual Jam and Funk wouldn’t really cut it for a first dance. Elle choreographed a dance that really suited the both of us. It was so fun and to hear the crowd cheer as we hit our spins and dips! Once we executed the lift and all of our guests roared — it was absolutely amazing! I’m smiling eat to ear just thinking about it!
How did you incorporate your personalities into your wedding celebration?
The most important detail for us was the music. I had been scoping out several bands at the beginning of the planning process, but did not find Nola Dukes until lulu recommended them when we hired her for our “month of coordination”. Nola Dukes truly exceeded our expectations! Music is a big part of Matthew and my relationship. It was at Tipitina’s that I told him I loved him (he reciprocated this love later that night over mini tacos at the Avenue Pub) and this is also the place he proposed — don’t worry, Tipitinas…not Avenue Pub 🙂 The groom’s cake is also a good example. The groom’s cake was a cookie cake (Matthew’s favorite) piped with a Ronigers/Tipitinas logo that my Mother in Law’s dear friend drew for us. This logo was also was included on all of our cups and koozies! Lastly, all of my bridesmaids wore a shade of my favorite color and each dress fit each of their personalities perfectly! Each detail had a part of us it in it big or small and I am so thrilled that Catherine was able to capture them all!
