When I first met Amelia, it was through our friend Chrissy. I can still remember the conversation. We were driving through a fast food drive through when Amelia mentioned her interest in photography. I casually offered for her to come and shoot sometime or if she ever had any questions to let me know. Well, over the next few weeks we became even better friends and the topic of photography came up again. At that time, I had had other photographers second shooting with me. These photographers were either owners and photographers of their own business, shooters looking to eventually start their own business, or photographers who shot something other than weddings, looking to shoot weddings solely as a 2nd.
My dream was always to find someone who had the same outlook on shooting weddings as I did and someone who would shoot with me for every wedding. This person needed to have not only the personality but also the ability to learn. Even if they had never photographed before, I was confident that they could learn…and I could teach them.
Insert Amelia here. 🙂 We had lunch at the Broken Egg and I offered the position to her. I told her I was looking for someone to be on my team, someone that was interested in all of the things I mentioned. I explained to her that I can be COMPLETELY scatter-brained at times, and that it wouldn’t always be easy. I warned her that shooting in South Louisiana in the middle of the summer is SO hot…but that there would be awesome days too! 🙂 I told her she’d meet some amazing couples and witness and document the most beautiful moments…..
Right away, her answer was pretty much: HECK yea…and the rest was history.
WHAT I WANTED TO FIND:
*A strong shooter.
*An outgoing personality.
*A hard worker.
*A Persistant, Compassionate, and Personable person.
WHAT I ACTUALLY FOUND:
*ALL of the ABOVE. 🙂 ….IN ADDITION TO…..
*An excellent navigator <—seriously, I would literally be lost without her.
*A second brain: Sometimes, she thinks for me. 🙂
*A singing partner….I think if we had someone follow us around…WOW. They would have some interesting videos of us pre- and post-wedding. 🙂 We love to jam.
*Travel Buddy. Especially for our recent weddings to Vegas and Florida, Amelia and I found out that we love to travel together! It’s so fun to go places with her and to share in all the cool memories.
*Someone to Keep Me Laughing: I’ll admit, I get stressed. And nervous. and I want everything to be perfect. Amelia does a wonderful job of reminding me to breathe and keeping the atmosphere light and fun!!! 🙂
*A Wonderful and Loyal Friend. 🙂 🙂 I am so thankful for the friendship that Amelia and I have! We are able to remain friends…and learn to work together! We have a great balance between the two and I’m so thankful for that.
It has officially been over one full year since the very first wedding that Amelia shot with me. It’s crazy how fast time flies. I seriously cannot imagine shooting a wedding without her at this point and I’m so INCREDIBLY thankful to have such an talented photographer and awesome friend by my side!
We’re at the point now, where our photographs are really starting to blend together. We read each others’ minds, and we laugh at the same silly jokes. She understands my hand signals…(well, sort of) when I’m trying to silently signal to her in the churches…haha…and we know that sometimes we just get frustrated or stressed and have learned to roll with it!
SO, today I just wanted to really take the time to appreciate having her shoot all of these wonderful couples with me!!!
At every wedding…we try to find time to remember the wedding, and the couple by taking a shot with the couple. I love this photo from Lauren + Linc’s wedding! 🙂
During Kayla’s bridal session, it started raining on us. Amelia had come along for the shoot….and like ALWAYS was there to lend a hand.
She was cheery, assisted when needed and provided lots of humor for us as well! 🙂
We shot this last Saturday at Kayla + Eric’s wedding…and I think it describes us perfectly! Amelia and I both strive to create beautiful images and good art…as well as a fun time for the bride & groom.
Amelia’s poker face. lol
While looking back on the past year, I thought it’d be fun to go back through my iphone photos and find pictures of us! In the process, I came across photos from our Florida wedding, Biloxi with our photographer friends, WPPI 2012, our Love Drop Shoot, and so much more!!!
If this year is any indication of what’s to come…I can’t wait! 🙂 🙂 🙂
And that Biloxi trip wouldn’t have been half as good without her! Amelia has made the best addition to us!!!:):)
That picture from the wedding is incredible! hahaha love it!
Love you both!! Y’all are an amazing team. Yeah…. so we need to do another trip ASAP!!! Girls’ trip to Biloxi is a must. 🙂
