Bethany + John were attending the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York when they met. After going through similar difficult circumstances in life these two found solice in each other.
Their first date was a few weeks after they began their friendship, having made plans to see Little Miss Sunshine. How romantic that Johnheld onto his ticket stub until the the day of their wedding <–when he gave it to Bethany … <3 swoon <3
There were sooo many special details on their wedding day. It was emotional but a fabulous and fun day! Their color palette was purple with hints of champagne gold. And everyone participated in the creation of the details including their secondline umbrellas, unity candle, oyster shell favors, etc.
I’m soooo happy for these two. I was nervous for the rain that morning as it sprinkled over the city but stopped just in time for them to have the perfect weather for their wedding! Congratulations to the Magalhaes!

Because they currently live out-of-state, Beth opted to have her bridal session photographed the day of her wedding. I was so happy the rain cleared because we were able to shoot in the French Quarter right in front of the Cathedral (something she’d been dreaming of for as long as she could remember).
Bethany, you.are.gorgeous.
They exchanged letters before the ceremony … such a sweet, and thoughtful idea.
And the ceremony…was perfect.
John’s favorite purchase was his his groom’s cake (of the New York Mets) and his secondline umbrella (which displayed the Portuguese flag).
Bethany’s favorite wedding part of planning was for the secondline. She grew up in New Orleans, so for every special event she remembers secondlining. And now…she can say that she secondlined to her reception!
(Seriously…checkout this crowd!!!)
People everywhere stopped to clap and cheer for them!
Bethany + John couldn’t imagine their wedding any place but New Orleans. They wanted to share the city with John’s family and celebrate their relationship as well as his Portuguese hertiage. They roasted a pig and danced the “Bate Pa.”
Their first dance…
The rooftop of the Omni (with the Cathedral in the backdrop)
