I’m like a runner preparing for a race, only I’ll be walking and probably not losing nearly as many calories. π I may not be training for a race, but I do have a routine as I prepare for wedding days, or “Game Days” as Amelia and I like to call it. Over the past few years, I have developed a system and being the Type AAA personality that I am…it makes me feel so much more prepared and ready for the wedding when I go through my routine.
You know, I’m probably not the type of person that should really be speaking about routine as it’s not something that I’m excellent at when it comes to a day-to-day schedule. However, when it comes to getting ready for a wedding, I definitely have one. These the things that I do in order to get myself mentally and also physically prepared, so I thought it’d be fun to share…please don’t laugh at my annoying/obsessive habits…lol Some of these things are equipment related and others just help me to feel ready.
The process usually takes 2-3 hours to complete but going through this has prevented me from forgetting things or feeling scattered when arrive to shoot. Instead, it allows me to show up early, and ready to go….with my running shoes camera ready
* Double check and Format all memory cards that are ready to be used; (I will not format a memory card until that previous wedding or session has been edited and uploaded to my proofing site.)
* Recharge all Nikon D3s Batteries and Double A Batteries for Speedlights and pocket wizards
* Wipe down ALL lenses, attach caps, and organize them inside my Think Tank Airport International Bag (It’s amazing how dirty a lens can get in one week)
* Organize my Laptop Bag and make sure to grab an extension cord and memory card reader.
* Place a few business cards inside of my Kelly Moore Bag.
* Remove my iphone from its case and place it in my BlackRapid Cargo Strap.
* Wipe down and polish my Tory Burch flats (Yes, I seriously do this every wedding. <–Call me crazy, it’s ok)
* Iron and hang the outfit I’ll wear and pick out my jewelry (no long dangly earrings…the magnets make them stick to my rapid strap! lol)
* Check and Double check that my Lightstand Setup or Off-Camera Lighting is firing and ready to go!
* Read through the Final Wedding Schedule and refamiliarize myself with the day.
* Eat a HUGE meal at the restaurant of our choice, go over the schedule together, and hang out with Amelia before we start shooting! π
So, today, we’re off to photograph Heather and Bobby’s wedding!!!! I cannot believe their wedidng is already here…and I’m so super stoked for the day! π π
In the process of preparing for today’s wedding, I thought it’d be fun to put out a sneak peak of Mary Katherine + Robbie’s wedding from last Saturday.
