A few nights ago, I sat at my computer to answer some emails. And as part of the “getting to know my clients” process, I opened an inquiry questionnaire from a future potential bride!
On the questionnaire, I asked: “Would you care to share the details of your proposal story?” I feel like asking this question really gives me quick insight into the couple and their personalities! Getting to know my clients is something that I feel is so important in wedding photography as I’m spending more time with the couple than anyone else on their wedding day.
As I read the details of this proposal story, I was simultaneously talking with my husband. And I realized that I have never shared our simple but so special proposal story.
When Brad proposed to me, we were at my house unpacking boxes from my move. We were discussing our future and how we’d like to spend it. Then, he disappeared. I heard my name from the other room, and when I walked in…he was on one knee holding up a simple gold band that he pulled from my jewelry box (a thumb ring to be exact). lol He said he didn’t want to wait another day…that he was holding a “round symbolic object” and knew that he wanted to be with me forever.
What may come off as a flighty, spontaneous attempt to ask me to marry him is in my eyes the most genuine, authentic and immediate claim that this was the start of our life together. It doesn’t involve the details of extravagance or extreme romance; but it’s ours and I love it.
Over the next several weeks, we designed a ring together using stones from a pair of earrings my grandmother gave me in addition to a few others. I loved building our ring together! Being that we went to design school together and find so much joy doing projects all the time…it was so fitting!
