What can I say…my mom is a wise woman full of quotable sayings. 🙂 One of the sayings that I’ve heard her say time and time again is that “Couples who pray together, stay together.”
We grew up in a praying family; at night we would gather in our den and pray for each of our family members and friends and whoever in addition we wanted to add to the prayer list for the night. We would say the Father’s prayer, our Hail Mary, and Glory Be’s. It was one of the memories from my childhood that I love the most. It showed me at an early age that my parents were believers and that together, they used the Lord to keep their marriage where it needed to be: with him as the center.
Getting to know Brittany + Sean has been such an awesome and inspiring experience. They are both heavily involved in the Catholic church and aspire to be even better Christians together as a couple. Christ is most definitely the center of their relationship and it is obvious in the way they treat each other with a loving, and mutual respect.
Brittany LOVES the chilvarous ways of a man so it was really fun to incorporate that into their shoot. We even spent a portion of their engagement session at Jungle Gardens where I documented the process of them writing the letters to each other that they will soon read on their wedding day.
When Brittany, Sean, and I first met we talked a lot about their faith and how it was a very important part of their relationship. So, we really wanted to incorporate this aspect of their relationship into their engagement session. Their church (St. John’s Cathedral) is not only where they’ll soon be wed, but also…the chapel next door is the place where Sean proposed.
Sean wasn’t able to make the Church group’s summer camp so he was bringing Brittany to St. John’s to meet up with everyone traveling to New Orleans. They spent a moment together praying in the chapel beside the church. Brittany says that she can still remember the moment that he leaned over and kissed her on the shoulder while they prayed together. After making the sign of the cross, Brittany stood to exit the chapel, but much to her surpised, Sean dropped down to his knee.
There, in the chapel, with the Lord as their witness Sean asked Brittany to say yes to being his wife.
