Billy, being the romantic that he is, had carefully planned an elaborate trip to Oregon’s wine country with the woman he loved. His favorite place there is known as “the Grotto”. Billy described is as being SO beautiful….and even mentioned that I would love it. 🙂 (Especially after hearing their proposal story, I’m anticipating the day when I can make the trip myself!)
After much of their OWN anticipation of the trip, when Katelyn + Billy finally arrived, they took their bags (and if we’re talking about Katelyn <–there were probably a few of them) 🙂 and made their way to the Bed and Breakfast that Billy had hand selected for the trip. Katelyn’s hand brushed a small, jewelry-sized box through Billy’s bag. Call it woman’s intuition, a good guess, whatever you may but Katelyn had a REALLY good feeling the box she felt through his bag was her engagement ring. And in that moment the inclination of a proposal was overwhelmingly exciting!!!
The next day, when they went to the grotto, Katelyn was SO excited! In her mind, this was going to be the place he proposed. She took pictures of E.V.E.R.Y. inch until billy told her he was ready to leave. Katelyn, saddened and surprised that there was no proposal made her way back to the vehicle. In that moment, she decided that she had to put it out of her mind.
When they got back to the bed and breakfast, Katelyn decided to relax on the porch. There she was, seated and looking out into a landscape that was potentially the most exquisite and beautiful she’d ever seen. As Billy walked toward her, Katelyn, looking forward to the horizon said to him, “Isn’t this the most beautiful view you’ve ever seen?” When he didn’t respond, she turned and found herself breathless. There was Billy, kneeling beside her with a ring in his hands. He took no time in asking her to marry him.
Katelyn + Billy spent the next 5 or so days exploring the most divine landscapes and enjoying each others company.
Katelyn + Billy, despite the misty weather for your engagement session, the day was perfect. I really enjoyed meeting you, Billy, and seeing you and Katelyn together. It’s funny that when we’re little we dream of who we’ll end up with; Katelyn, I couldn’t have handpicked a better man for you myself and it makes me so happy to know that you’ll soon be marrying the man of your dreams. 🙂 🙂 🙂 ….and I’ll be there to photograph it.
The rural life museum served as the perfect place to escape the mist. And the locations within were AH-mazing. Don’t you just love these two?
“Ok…you’re an animal. You’re a tiger. Now you’re running in a pack, you’re burrowing. Look, I’m not even shooting you, it’s crazy.” – Austin Powers
One of Katelyn’s favorite parts of the rural life museum is the church.
It may not have rained terribly hard, but the umbrella and parasol turned out to be a cute props for the shoot.
This is one of my absolute favorite shots from the day.
Are you kidding me? Did we just leave Louisiana and end up in the Fern Gully fairytale?
LOVE.

Katelyn, Billy, Jake, and Macha. 🙂 The perfect little family….
