I never would have thought I would have the opportunity to meet, much less learn from a photographer I admire so much.
I’ve heard Jose Villa speak at WPPI and read his book Fine Art Wedding Photography, but these things don’t compare to the days I spent learning from he and his team in Napa Valley. If you are reading this and potentially considering attending his workshop…I encourage you to make the jump.
For 2.5 days, I was surrounded by 20 wonderful fellow photographers and together, we learned from some of the best in the industry. Topics covered ranged from creating a consistent portfolio to the technical aspects of shooting film; in addition, I was able to photograph for 2 afternoons in a no-risk environment with my Contax.
Film has been a love of mine for awhile now but I must admit I have my fears. Attending the workshop gave me the courage to push harder and overcome some of the limitations that were holding me back.
Now I’m back home and still wrapping my head around it all. Yesterday, I received my scans from Richard Photo Lab and I’m so excited to share some of my images from Day 1 in Napa Valley. The first afternoon was spent shooting styled engagement sessions. There was two sets of lovely models, two outfit changes, gorgeous light and an incredible location.
Below are a few of my favorites from Day 1:
