What three adjectives best describe your wedding?
Fun : Warm : Natural
Tell us about your wedding venue(s) and why you chose to get married there.
I saw a photo of this venue from a family friend’s wedding, and I immediately fell in love with it. The view was just breathtaking and set the scene for the awesome night I pictured our wedding to be! I wanted to capture the essence of Louisiana, but I didn’t know how to do that without doing the classic plantation wedding. So this was the perfect South Louisiana scene and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect backdrop!
What was your favorite wedding purchase?
My shoes, hands down. I’ve literally been dreaming of those red bottoms ever since I laid my eyes on a pair and I knew I just wanted to treat myself on my wedding day. I made sure to steer away from bridal and invest in a pair that coordinated with my wedding look, but that I could also wear again. Now every time I wear them I’ll think of my wedding day!
What is your favorite wedding memory?
Gosh, where do I even begin. It might have to be when I was sitting on the trolley, alone, right before it was time for me to join my dad to walk down the aisle. It was such a surreal moment and the emotion just hit me, and I was more happy than I’d ever been in my life. I couldn’t wait to get off that trolley and see Steve. I just took deep breaths, said a prayer, got a little cry out, and took it all in.
Did you create any details yourself? How did you incorporate your personalities into the wedding?
I am definitely a planner and I love being a part of everything and party planning, so I tried to do a few things myself but ones that wouldn’t be overwhelming.
I did the large chalkboard that stood outside the church that served as our “program”, as well as the smaller “Menu” chalkboard. I love handwritten touches and that earthy, chalkboard detail added to the scene that I wanted to create.
I also set up my own “Photo Booth” at the wedding! I bought one of those “Diva Ring Lights” that makes your pictures look amazing, whether you’re taking a selfie or someone takes a photo of you. So I stood that up in a corner at the reception with a fun basket of props and everyone really loved it!
As far as our personalities, Stephen and I are both so laid back and easy going and we really wanted our wedding and the celebration of our relationship to be that way too. Obviously we wanted the night to be special and we knew we needed to add that formal flair to the event, but we didn’t want to stand and look around and be like “OK who do we think we are” haha! So I made sure to keep our decor warm and earthy, have plenty of candles, consider our guests and make everything inviting for them – and Steve made sure to find a band that would liven the party and keep everyone smiling and dancing and having a great time! Everything turned out perfectly and just like we wanted – it was beautiful without being fussy, it was warm and inviting and romantic, and it was an absolute party.
There’s not a thing either of us would change about that night!
