If I learned anything in 2010 from shooting, it was that every couple is different. They all have their own personality, way of loving, and unique style. But one thing remains the same…they are all madly in love and excited to promise their lives to one another on their wedding day. The sense of family is always present and so is the strong camaraderie between their closest friends.
I’ve continue to be intrigued by the unique cultural traditions of the American wedding, and for the first time last Saturday I was able to experience a new tradition. Gretchen was born in Costa Rica and comes from a Spanish speaking family. Her culture is filled with passion and a deep sense of love and family.
For she & Dustin’s wedding, she wanted to incorporate both Dustin’s American culture as well as some of her Spanish culture into the mass. And so, the ceremony was said in both English and Spanish and just after the vows, the priest placed a gorgeous pearl lasso around the couple and laid it on their shoulders.
In the Spanish culture, 
the bride and groom are wrapped with a Lasso in the shape of a rosary. This is done after the vows have been said to ensure the protection of the union. I loved the tradition, so I decided to share a few images from this beautiful moment:
Gretchen told me before the ceremony that she was most excited about this part of the mass.
And as everyone extended their hands toward the couple, I could sense the emotion and power of prayer in the church.
As I continue to witness other unique and cultural wedding traditions, I will continue to share them.
