Sometimes, as I’m laying on the ground covered in dirt, or Fall leaves, or doing my best not to fall over as I balance myself on a chair, rail, bench, or anything that will give me added height….I just think: if anyone could see what I look like right now. Thankfully, my clients accept me for who I am, and laugh with me while I look a little crazy to get “the shot”. They realize that I’m working as hard as I can to produce the images that they want.

When Amelia started shooting with me, I noticed some of the craziness that occurs. I would have to say my alltime favorite moment this year was when I laid on the beach for Jennifer + Daniel’s wedding just before the next wave came in crashing over me….yes in my wedding attire. This left me soaked from head to toe and full of sand before the reception (Luckily, I had a change of clothes)…and kept Jennifer + Daniel laughing.

It would be safe to say those moments are totally worth it. The moments when I look silly for them. πŸ™‚

I think the behind the scenes photos that I love the most….are the ones that are taken with the bride, the groom, and their family. I do my best to always take that shot toward the end, but I will admit sometimes I forget. But really and truly, when the wedding day is over, my clients are my friends. They’ve allowed me to share in the most special day of their lives until that moment, and being so vulnerable around each other allows our relationships and our friendships to grow quickly.

It makes me a little sad when the wedding day is over, but really enjoy keeping up with them as they grow in love.Β So, looking back on the year 2011, here are a few behind-the-scenes shots.

And right in between the above shot and this shot below, I was completely submerged in a wave.

I suppose while we’re looking at past water photos…this was taken at a shoot for Kaylynn Clark. She invited me to join her and it turned into a full day of fun.

This photo by Kaylynn is incredible. I love that you can see me pushing her underwater so that she would stay submerged until Kaylynn could grab the shot.

Then, I would help to bring her back up and remain afloat.

I don’t think I’ve given the thumbs up since Jr. High. πŸ™‚

One thing I am NOT is a hairstylist. However, I do my best.

Recently, my good friends Chris + Denisse were married…so I hired Kaylynn to shoot the reception. Which meant: YES! Dancing.

Even though Kaylynn was hired to shoot the reception, I still couldn’t resist being a part of the fun. Notice, I’m STILL wearing my camera bag.

Oh the joys of digital photography and instant gratification.

As a wedding photographer, I have grown to learn about many things….including paying attention to every detail.

Right about this moment, I noticed a train passing….so we quickly repositioned and grabbed a shot with the train in view. πŸ™‚

Amelia + I decided to join in the fun at Laura + Jimmy’s Halloween wedding.

I’m not sure what this pose is that I’m doing. It kind of looks like I belong in a music video.

Giving someone else my camera is always sure to make me laugh. This is only one of 5 shutter clicks that happened in less than a second. People typically forget to take their finger off the shutter.

P.S. Congratulations you two…baby on the way!

I try not not make it a habit of standing on furniture. But we, short people, need a little bit of height sometimes.

When people pass by I always feel a little crazy while shooting the rings. They’re so small, and passerby’s probably think I’m shooting the bushes.

At the end of Jessica + Mario’s wedding…safe to say these vendors (including Amelia…were worn out!) πŸ™‚

But SOMEHOW…Amelia got her second wind when we were photographing the bridal party decorating their getaway vehicle.

New Year’s Day 2011…awesome couple, awesome vendors, awesome wedding. Since the wedding, Brandi + Steve had twin baby boys!!!

Amelia + I set up the Simply Silly booth for Haylie + Erics wedding. πŸ™‚ And I jumped in this shot with Shari and my past bride and sister of Haylie – Addie.

I LOVE these two. They are expecting their first baby now…and will be incredible parents.

I want to give an extra special thank you to each of the clients that I have worked with in 2011.

Because of you, I am able to do what I love…everyday. I never would have thought that I could make a living following my dreams.

I love the creativity and the spontaniety butΒ I think the thing that makes wedding photography so special to me are the relationships. πŸ™‚

It’s fun to look back on 2011 and think of all the things I’ve learned, the people I’ve met, and the friendships that have formed. I can only hope that 2012 will be as special.
