Crystal’s ideal client
Crystal started her business as a career coach by helping others get a clear idea of what they wanted to do. Now, as a Business Coach, Crystal occasionally works with men, but prefers working with women. Women need different things in terms of approaching their career. There may be things that women want to improve that comes more naturally to men, such as negotiating a salary.
Common false beliefs for women
There are many common false beliefs for women in their careers. Money can be a large issue for women. For those looking for a job, if you do not feel comfortable asking for the salary that you want, then you are not going to get it. For a woman running her own business, if you are not making sales, then it is not a business but more of a time consuming hobby. Being proud of what you have accomplished is also very important. When telling someone why they should hire you, be confident and have a willingness to express it outwardly as well. Believe what you are saying! If you are afraid of voicing what you know, you will not be able to provide your clients with the highest value.
Mistakes made along the way
One of the first mistakes Crystal made was earlier in her career when she found herself unemployed. At this point, she already had the dream to start her own business and work for herself, but rather than taking this time to begin her own career, she let the fear control her and decided to look for another job in law. Looking back, this mistake has made her more willing to take imperfect actions. When first starting her own company, Crystal felt as if she did not put enough time and energy into listening to her own intuition and mindset. She was so determined to build her business that she ended up overworking herself. Her business, that she loved, became just another job. Always remember to stop and take the time to take care of yourself. Keep your mindset and self-care at the same level as your action. Crystal also made the mistake of agreeing to a contract with another Business Coach that she did not 100% agree with. Avoid signing a contract if it does not feel good to you, or signing out of desperation. Also, do not agree to something from a place of fear or feeling small.
Reasons why women may hold themselves back
There are so many possible reasons why women may hold themselves back. A lot of women are afraid of outshining others, because there is a strong desire to connect with other women around you. There is also the idea of maintaining the “status quo” of going to school, getting a good job, getting married and having children. Being an entrepreneur may not fit into that. If you have a great job, but you want to pursue a job doing something you absolutely love, there is a lot of fear and judgement that may come along with that. There is also a distorted sense of reality because you may not have people in your day-to-day life who are supporting of your dream, while online, where people may understand more, you may feel that your industry is saturated with others who share your same dream.
