On Saturday of this past weekend, I walked around the convention center, the host location for the Spring 2011 Graduation. And I thought of the places that I have been and the things that I have done since I finished my Master of Architecture in December of 2009.
Well, for one…I’ve failed, lots. And I’ve learned…A TON. My learning curve is pretty much a straight line up at this point and I’m like a sponge soaking it all in. I’ve spoke before on the power of taking risks and the power of learning, but no one says it better than Denzel Washington.
One of my very best friends just finished his Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and their commencement speech was given by none other than THE Denzel Washington himself!!! I couldn’t believe it. I strongly encourage you…if you are working…sitting at home…on your lunch…or taking a break. Please take these next few minutes to laugh and to listen. He has a wonderful message and I want to share it with you.
“You may have the training and the talent to succed, but do you have the guts to fail? If you don’t fail, you’re not even trying. To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.”
I took this image on Saturday at UL Lafayette’s graduation. And I think the top of her cap couldn’t have said it better, “Look at Me Now.” When you work hard, and you take risks…good things will come.
Take these opportunities in life and make the most of them…and remember…in the words of Denzel: Never be afraid to fail and always Fall Forward.
Live Simply, Love Freely,
Catherine
This gave me chills.
