The NIGHTMARE I woke up to on Saturday….

We ALL have them: The days when you wake up, look around and realize that you’re life is a mess. I had that day this past Saturday. Saturday was a day off for me, which is pretty unlike a typical weekend so maybe it was the stir-craziness within…or it very well could have been the pile of unironed clothes, the shout of my dryer telling me to fold, or the basket of clothes waiting to be washed. My living room pillows were scattered and Chaos’ toys were everywhere. Dun Dun Duhhhhhhhhhhnnnnnn

The CAT Attack:

Having grown up with a mother who ALWAYS made sure the house was spotless, I was ashamed. So, I decided to get to work. I cleaned out my entire closet, washed and ironed clothes, folded my laundry, and cleaned the place. Things actually were starting to look pretty good. But it wasn’t enough. Since I moved in, little by little my place has grown into my home. But unlike the HGTV shows that I’m completely addicted to, I never attacked my living/dining space design with intention.

Plan of Action:

I had no color palette, no organization, and no clear plan…that’s all changing right about now. I immediately started moving furniture and finally had the chance to put together a few things I picked up in Houston last week. I began organizing and planning. I don’t want to reveal too much yet, but you better believe I’ll be posting images when I’m finished. I’ve decided to sell my furniture and all!!!! Yeah, it’s big. Let’s just say I’m making it modern.

The Realization:

Right around Sunday afternoon, I looked around and realized that my place was a complete disaster. It looked like it had been hit by a hurricane, no worse…a tornado. I knew I’d have work today and there was no way of finishing in time. A cloud of frustration and anxiety rushed over me as I laid on my floor, exhausted. My friends were all busy, Brad was working, and my family lives out of town. 🙁 I was out of luck….and then I stopped myself. And I asked myself: WHY was I rushing?! I have no children and no REAL deadline or reason I had to finish in that moment.

So I took this photo below as I put together my new coffee table to remind me that everything has a system, an order and a process. And those things take time. Like all big goals or projects, it’s not going to happen over night. And so, I took a deep breath and looked around at all I HAD accomplished over the weekend, EVEN with a shoot on Sunday!! 🙂

I really needed that moment to remember to be patient, to always continue working, and eventually all things will come together. 🙂

Live Simply, Love Freely,

Catherine

Cat- This blog makes me laugh… I used to always get mad at my mom for freaking out if her house was not spotless! Now, I can actually admit that I have become just like her (Although, I will NEVER admit this to her..lol). I would really love to see you do a session on just YOUR MOM! You should show her off because your mother is beautiful inside & out…. and those are qualities hard to find today! Love you

P.S.- Your life has ALWAYS been a mess & u are just realizing this??

    Hi Catherine!

Just wanted to drop a note to say how wonderful I think your photography is. When I was still on facebook I enjoyed seeing your new postings, and today I just got to your website through linked in. Congratulations, it really seems you’ve found your niche. I wish your talents were located closer to Wisconsin so I could recommend you to my friends here.
