Tell us about your wedding venue(s) and why you chose to get married there.
Dan is from Georgia and I am from North Carolina. We moved to New Orleans about two years ago for work and have come to love the area and we were so excited to show our new home to family and friends for the wedding.
We loved Houma’s House as soon as we saw the venue. It is absolutely beautiful from the front lawn to the reception venue. We both felt so comfortable and the outdoor spaces are wonderful.
What was your favorite wedding detail?
I carried my grandmother’s handkerchief during the ceremony. My grandmother passed away a few months before my wedding. We had planned for her to be the ‘flower grandma’ so keeping this part of her with me on the day was very special.
What was your best wedding day memory?
There were so many wonderful moments throughout the day from our first dance, saying our vows, to the beautiful toasts and the scripture reading by Dan’s dad. However, our first look is my favorite. I was getting a little nervous as the preparations went along. As soon as we saw each other, I felt so relieved and really enjoyed the pictures, ceremony and reception that followed.
How did you incorporate your personalities into your wedding celebration?
We love being outdoors and the gardens felt very much like us. We also wanted great food and a fun reception. We were very fortunate to have my dad’s cousin as our officiant. He married my parents 30 years ago. Most importantly, we were so happy to have friends and family from across the country be present for our wedding. We felt so loved.
