What three adjectives best describe your wedding?
Collaborative, Once-in-a-Lifetime, Festive
Tell us about your wedding venue(s) and why you chose to get married there.
Growing up both Catholic we knew we wanted a church wedding. Starting our lives in Washington together gave us the opportunity to start our marriage at our new church with our new priest in our new town. Geographically, it is between the two towns where we were born and raised so it represented the compromise we have made to join our lives together with the support of both of our families on either side of us on the map. For the reception, my favorite sunsets have always been off the front porch of his parents’ home in Ville Platte. I had to have the sunset as part of our reception and throwing the biggest celebration of our lives at their home was special for both families and all of our guests.
What was your favorite wedding purchase?
I should say something sentimental like his wedding band I had engraved on a whim two days before the wedding, but let’s be honest…it was the paper products. I have boxes and boxes of every single invitation, wedding program, thank you note, birthday card, etc I’ve ever received in my closet. So it’s no surprise my favorite part was the purchase was the one most people throw away–our invitations and programs. Rita and Anna nailed it and made my wild idea come to life. Rita gave me the option of envelope liners–I presented her with 250 individual Audubon print images for each envelope. Sure, no one would ever know each was different but it sure was special stuffing each envelope with my mom and checking to see which guest would receive each image. The programs were an afterthought and thrown together a week before the wedding and I couldn’t have been more proud! Words of affirmation is my love language so what’s better than pretty words of affirmation in print?!
What was your best wedding day memory?
The calm, peaceful feeling of getting ready at our house on our wedding day. There was a buzz of excitement in the air but everyone was at peace. The same calm, peaceful feeling I had when I started dating Ross knowing everything would be okay. That feeling remained with me as I walked down the aisle overcome with excitement but a strong sense of peace.
Did you create any details yourself? How did you incorporate your personalities into the wedding?
One thing I wanted for our wedding to was to have all of our favorite vendors, around our age, in one place, working together–for us and with us. Both being self-employed, we know the importance of people trusting you enough to work with you and your product. Out the gate, I knew my favorite “young” entrepreneurs/vendors and I wanted them all in one place. Much to my surprise–the schedules aligned and it worked! We threw out some traditional aspects (groom’s cake) but let Rebecca (Beau Soleil Café and Catering) shine with the Banana’s foster station and nixed the idea of a live artist due to scheduling conflicts then welcomed Kali with open arms when she expressed the desire to start creating live pieces. In the end, I trusted every single one of our vendors and they pulled it off without a hitch (as far as I know!). It was an experience to watch all of these minds work together in their own way to create one big image–our day!
