Just a few days felt like so much more at this fabulous, fun and knowledge-filled photography workshop. Propel 2014 is a workshop hosted by Caroline Tran that I had the opportunity to attend in November 2014.
According to Caroline, there were close to 100 applicants of which Caroline chose less than a dozen. I am so honored to have been selected as one to attend and feel privileged to have met this crew of talented and kind individuals.
I’ve attended workshops in the past including Jose Villa’s Napa Workshop (Day 1 & Day 2) as well as FIND Nola and I always seem to walk away with something new! 🙂 Being that I finished my degree in Architecture, photography workshops have been a great source of insightful knowledge and an excellent way to connect with photographers from other areas.
Propel felt like a retreat…a getaway…an overall incredible experience. Every detail was thoughtful and generous. We had hand-written notes waiting for us in our rooms, individual name tags shaped like the Contax 645, cocktails, catered meals and desserts that blew my mind (and taste buds)! I also loved that Caroline had an entire staff there to make sure everything was taking care of! <3
Ngoc of Sky Box Events (and her staff) were on top of everything and all soooo kind as well. This really made the workshop feel so seemless and organized. Caroline’s husband Jonathan was there for technical questions and assistance and I thoroughly enjoyed the shooting and speakers (Cohen of Richard Photo Lab, Dena from Cypress Albums, Nikki from Akula Creative, Jen of Green Wedding Shoes) of course Caroline! I met Caroline for the first time at WPPI earlier this year during RPL’s VIP Party! What stood out for me most, was that despite her obvious success and talent she’s one of the most down-to-earth, humble human beings. I felt like we were old friends and I was very much looking forward to the chance to learn from her.
We spent time in the classroom every morning where we discussed topics like branding, marketing and workflow and the afternoons were dedicated to shooting! It was a ton of fun to photograph details and decor from talented vendors such as Claire Pettibone, Erica Elizabeth, Design House of Moira, and so many more. But oddly enough I think my favorite part of Propel were the group exercises. We did lots of interesting activities together, ranging from simple exercises to get to know one another to group challenges designed to stretch our photo brains. 🙂 On the last day I was honestly sad to leave. I felt like we had shared a really special bond and I don’t say this lightly! We really, truly meshed and I will never forget this special experience! <3
