2010….You’ve been good to me. I’ve been thrown a few curve balls and fallen in the dirt a time or 30, but thanks to my good humor and resilience to embarrassment, I’ve learned to dust myself off and jump back in the game. What’s with all the softball talk? I’m not sure….so back to the intended point:
Starting a business is NOT an easy feat by any means. I’ve prayed a lot and thankfully had the support of so many wonderful friends and family members this year. I’ve been blessed with a ton of A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. clients who have trusted me and shared their lives with me. And I couldn’t be more thankful.
And although I am still learning SOO much every day, these are a few things I’ve learned in 2010:
1. I made my business official as an LLC to ensure that the government recognized my work as LEGIT…:) π
2. I hired an incredible accountant, Luke Sonnier of Darnall, Sikes, Gardes & Frederick, CPAs and he’s the bomb. FOR REAL.
3. I bought QUICKBOOKS!!! Seriously, best.decision.ever. I used to record everything in Excel….looking back on the situation…what what I thinking? Quickbooks, you saved my life.
4. I’ve learned that communication cannot be underestimated, and good communication takes practice!
5. I put way too many exclamation points and smiley faces in my sentences but I’m ok with it, because it’s impossible to be too nice.
6. I love all of the incredible networking tools available (ie: Facebook, Blogging, and Twitter)
7. I used to think that I could survive on a night schedule in a world that lives on morning and daytime hours…I was wrong.
8. Just like being too nice, being too organized is also impossible. I never ACTUALLY thought that I would have a filing cabinet like my parents. And I do.
9. Fear only hinders growth. So does procrastination.
10. I’ve realized that work is important, but so are my friends and my family…..And SO I’m off to attend a Tacky Christmas Sweater Party.

So here’s to many many more exclamation points and smiley faces. I know I’ll continue to fail and grow, but it’s all a part of the process. Best of luck to you if you are also inΒ your growth stage or if you’re even just starting out. π Perseverence and hard work DOES pay off!!!
