If there ever was such a thing as a business book junky, I’d be one. Since I moved into my office, a few things have happened:
- I get dressed in the morning..in real, grown-up clothes.
- Breakfast is eaten BEFORE 3:00 in the afternoon.
- I workout (I actually started P90x two weeks ago and can barely walk today).
- I’ve become more consistent and focused.
- I knit and I read again!!!!
If you follow my blog religiously, then you’ll notice that I’ve been putting out about a book a week, which is pretty good considering I’m still managing to get in a full days work and be even more efficient than ever!
There are few things that I miss about working at home, like Chaos (my 5lb pup) and the way he FORCES me to entire the light every few hours when I take him outside. But overall, working here has been wonderful and one of the best business moves I’ve made so far.
But one of the BEST things…is that when I get home, I can read wonderful books like Delivering Happiness:
The book, written by Tony Hsieh (pronounced “Shay”), CEO of Zappos.com, makes a strong point for proving that profits don’t mean a thing without passion and purpose.
Whether you are a business person, somone searching for motivation, or simply interested in diving into a book about happiness, this is the one.
A few of my favorite excerpts of the book include
- “I failed my way to succes.” – Thomas Edison
- “And somewhat ironically, I’d just learned the term hubris in my Greek history class is defined as ‘an exaggerated sense of pride or self-confidence’ and caused the downfall of many Greek heros.”
- “Go for positive expected value, not what’s least risky.”
- “Value experience over things.”
- “It’s more fun to talk with someone who doesn’t use long difficult words but rather short easy words like, ‘What about lunch?’ – Winnie-the-Pooh
- “When you walk with purpose, you collide with destiny.” – Bertice Berry
I also LOVE his comparison between poker and business. Thanks to Jamie for the recommendation…you haven’t failed me yet. 😉
