Preparing for an engagement session can be a daunting task. And with the additional wedding plans that are taking place…can at times be overwhelming. Over time and with experience, I’ve created a list of session tips that I find have helped my clients. I believe that these little things can come together to make for an easier…and better session!
THE PURPOSE:Â Typically, Â a couple is looking to shoot an engagement session to not only get beautiful couples of them during such a special time, but also to better know their photographer before the wedding day! Also, many couples choose to display these images in sign in books or frames/canvases at their reception! It’s a perfect chance to have fun, enjoy each other…and have beautiful images as a result.
HAIR/MAKEUP:
*I suggest considering professional hair and makeup for engagement sessions! It makes a ton of difference and really keeps couples feeling fabulous.
OUTFITS:
*Choose your best outfits and outfits that you will feel beautiful in! <–It’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed.
*If you can’t decide bring them all. I offer to sort through outfits and I’m sure your photographer will as well.
* Accessories are encouraged large and small (clutches, cute hats, and jewelry always adds a nice touch to the photos)
*I recommend dresses and heels for ladies and slacks, suits, and dress shirts for men. 😉 Looking sharp really makes a huge difference in the final photos!
*Coordinating solids, neutrals (greys, blacks, pastels, tan) with accessories is usually the way to go, although if you have patterns that work well together, go for it!
*Represent your personal style.
DURING THE SESSION:
*The engagement sessions are a wonderful opportunity for you to get to know your photographer before the wedding. I encourage you to take this session without an audience, you’ll be more inclined to relax and be yourselves.
*The start time  decided on was chosen due to available light. It’s SO important to start on time, so that you will have the light necessary for the entire shoot.
*Be open-minded, because lots of the spontaneous shooting turns out to be the best!
*Discuss specific ideas and locations prior to the shoot.
*HAVE FUN!!!! This should be an experience that you walk away from saying you enjoyed! 🙂 So…let loose and be yourself!
