I recently collaborated with my friend Mia of Root Floral Design for a photoshoot that will soon be published in the Independent here in Lafayette. We hand selected model Hailey Deas to be a part of the shoot and all had a blast working together. I only preface my blog post today with this subject because that day was inspiring. And I don’t even mean in the sense of the photoshoot but in the sense of my personal organization…….
I drove up to Hailey’s house and when I opened the door, I literally stepped into the most beautiful space. Not only was every element of the decor hand selected to complete Hailey’s vision but her ENTIRE home was spotless! I wasn’t the only one who noticed! Mia, Sara Buteaux (hair/makeup artist), and I ALL commented on how incredible her home was.
And that moment sent my head spinning. I was in admiration of Hailey’s discipline and ashamed of my lack thereof. I am definitely guilty of spending my energy and my time focused on organizing my business and as a result I find my home and personal organization sometimes falling behind. I continued to compare her home to mine throughout the day and that evening as I walked into a crowded living room filled with boxes and furniture with clothes stacked on top…I knew I had to do something about it!
Yesterday, I made the trip to Ikea and purchased a TON of storage options for the spaces in my home that I thought needed “love” the most: my closet, my home office, and my kitchen. I am also in the process of renovating my home office to allow for an additional worker (aka: Amelia) during the weeks so that was part of the night as well! <–and is still a work in progress.
Below are a few iphone images of the Before and Afters. You’ll have to excuse the quality of the photos…I was in a hurry to get everything done when I got home from IKEA (between the hours of 12AM and 4AM)…yes, I am serious…so iphone photos had to do! I’ll be sure to post images of my home office too once it’s been redone!
My goal was to get everthing “off the floor” starting with the pantry.
Seriously, it’s amazing what a few shoe racks can do!
I don’t have photos but I also organized my scarves and my belts (below).
I LOVE the before and after of my office storage unit! LOL.
What projects are you putting off? I promise you’ll feel such satisfaction if you get to them!
Stay Simply Modern,
Catherine
