In our architecture design studios, we were taught that the project is never finished. They emphasized that we should always always always be challenging ourselves, pushing the limits, and never feeling satisfied that a project was complete…because it never was.
They told us that a true designer is constantly visiting and re-visiting their ideas, testing out their thoughts, and evaluating their design decisions. To be quite honest, it drove me a little crazy. I am definitely a list person, and I LOVE to check things off. Thankfully, design school taught me a new way of thinking….and I can still keep my lists.
My blog has been an big part of my business, especially within the past year. It’s become a daily journal…only public. VERY public. I can still remember when I first learned of blogging and the fear I felt putting up my very first post. Being as analytical of myself as I am, I still read and reread all that I write but in the end, I force myself to put it out there, convincing myself that it’s the only way to really be vulnerable enough so that my clients, friends, and those I meet can be vulnerable with me.
And in the very least, my mom will still read my posts. ๐
On Tuesday of this week, my friend and fellow photographer Jason held Cafe Cohen night at his office. I had the chance to chat with so many other vendors and friends and it truly was a great event and one that resulted in helping a family who lost everything in a tornado (Valerie, Daniel, and Jason did a wonderful job with the event). At the end of the night, I felt inspired. I think being around so many other artists does that to me.
So the next day, I took that energy and have been working on my blog since. It’s something I’ve been thinking of doing for a long time and finally had the chance to sit and work on it. Like those design projects in school, it’s definitely a work in progress…but I thought I’d share it’s current state:
- My masthead sort of represents the way in which I love to tell the story of a wedding through the details. ๐ย But it wouldn’t be a wedding without the couples that I love so dearly….so I intend to feature current and upcoming weddings on the sidebarย and visitors will still have the ability to browse categories.
- I condensed my about section and also moved it to the sidebar….and I’ve added click throughs to connect with others on facebook and twitter.
- I love searching blogs for inspiration and sharing my finds with the brides I work with. Lately, I’ve starting becoming more involved with other blogs by submitting my work. The featured on section is to display previous posts and hopefully lead others to lots of cool ideas and inspiration!!!!
- The recommended vendors is a work in progress and I know it will grow quickly! If there is a vendor you’d like to recommed, I’d love to hear about them. I started the section with Valerie of Southern Fete, and Chris Serio of Bridefilm because I love their work and their work ethic! ๐ ๐ ๐ More to come….
- And lastly, I’ve replaced my boring, I’m too scared to be bold background with this snazzy black and white pinstripe wallpaper. ๐ ๐ ๐ I hope you like it!
I would love to hear your feedback, good and bad, criticisms and ideas. No thought is too big or too small.Live Simply, Love Freely,
