It was September, the week of Jess’s birthday…although Michael had been planning the proposal since June. He was spending a lot of time at his friend Eugene’s house and working to make it perfect. The week of her birthday, Michael’s mom brought a collection of stones and settings of which Michael found the perfect blend of vintage/modern for Jessica’s ring. He even used the stone his dad proposed to his mom with which meant the world to both of them. Also, like Michael’s parents did, Jessica + Michael communicate with post-it notes: an “I love you” here…a “sorry I ate the last of the goldfish” there. <–so, this became another huge part of the proposal.
A few days after her birthday, Michael told Jess to hide just for a moment as he had bought her something that he wanted to put together. Knowing the silliness of their relationship, Jessica was prepared for some sort of gadget or toy and gladly tucked herself away. When she opened the door…she was shocked to find post-its EVERYWHERE.
The notes closest to her were silly “You’re the perfect adversary”…(they love to wrestle) “You love the cajuns.”…And as she continued reading the post-its through tears, the reasons he loved her became more serious “You make me a better person”….“I love being around you.” There were arrows and stops and at the end a note that said “These are all the reasons I love you and more…” And there was Michael on one knee.
We used their engagement session as a means of celebrating their relationship and their proposal. We photographed them in the city of Lafayette at places they loved : beginning with UL’s stadium (where they met) and moving into a more urban location…the downtown. We also made sure to incorporate the post-it notes that have been so integral to their relationship and proposal.
I love working with couples like Jessica + Michael because they know how to have fun. Much of their session was spent laughing and just enjoying the day! The weather was nice and the rain held out for us! I’m so excited to share their engagement session preview:
