Yesterday afternoon, I made my way to the convention center:
I ran to my car with two legs that work perfectly. I started my vehicle with an arm that responds immediately to my brains instructions. I listened to the radio with perfect hearing and hummed to the tunes on the radio with a voice that speaks too freely. I breathed clearly the air that flowed into my vehicle through the small opening where the window usually stays. I was alone because I am independent to live this way.
I stepped out of my vehicle prepared to shoot but nothing prepared me for what I was humbled to see: Grace, Strength, and Bravery.
I was reminded how easily I forget the blessings, I forget the good, I take for granted what God has given. I am too selfish, too quick to act, too slow to think things through and take other peoples’ thoughts and feelings into consideration. I am imperfect.
…..We are ALL imperfect but it’s what we do with our imperfections that makes us special.
Lose the Training Wheels is an organization designed to teach children with disabilities to ride a bike. I was asked to volunteer some time to photograph the progress; I had no idea I was volunteering to learn, to be affected, and to be reminded…that we can do whatever it is we want in life as long as we put our mind, our efforts, and our heart into it.
I would like to send a special thank you to Mrs. Cindy for contacting me to volunteer. I look forward to returning later this week to see their progress. Thank you also to those who are dedicating their time and resources to teaching these children. And most of all, thank you to the kids there who reminded me to be strong and to persevere.

Wow Catherine! How moving! It is truly a wonderful opportunity for these kids. I can’t wait to see them riding their bikes at the end of the week!! I can’t stop smiling when I’m watching them. I sent the link to this site to the others and this is what Shauna had to say….Wow! Was definitely not expecting a profundity like that…just finished wiping my eyes and regaining my composure!
Thank you for donating your talents! We appreciate you!
Cindy
Oh Catherine! You are so very right. First thank you for coming and capturing those precious moments. Just wait till you come back. You will be amazed. We take moments for granted, our kids take moments and make them memories. We have so much to learn!
