It’s hard to say what my favorite aspect of photography is. My instinct would be to say that it’s the creativity, the art and the desire to constantly challenge myself and reach new limits. But as much as I LOVE the final product, I may actually love the process more. After all, most of the fun happens on the journey, right?
It could be that I love the combination, but there’s one thing for sure, the interaction and the friendships made along the way are priceless. I am a people person, and always have been. I owe it to my parents, I suppose…because they never babied me. If I wanted something, I had to ask for it and work for it. If they were visiting with someone I didn’t know, I was expected to interact and could never result to being shy.
So over the years, I became comfortable talking to all kinds of people, never knowing that one day, it would be my occupation to do this and more on a daily basis. I have learned that photography is the type of profession that requires me to be outgoing and vulnerable, in addition to being quiet and observant. It’s a tough balance because I have to find a way to make my clients feel comfortable without being overbearing or stealing the show.
This is my first Behind the Scenes post. And just like I told Amelia the first time she came to shoot with me, allowing her in to the “other side” made me feel a bit vulnerable but I enjoyed revealing to her that I’m not perfect. I plan, I show up, and I execute to the best of my ability….and along the way there is stress, a few bumps, and definitely the necessary requirement to think on my toes. In the end, my couples are SO important to me, and I know I have to ‘Bring it’ for them.
Below are a few shots that have been taken during recent shoots and weddings. I intend to do more of this sort of thing….and hopefully, it will push myself to feel even more comfortable with showing others both sides of the Camera.
During shoots, I enjoy keeping my clients in the loop. Sometimes, I’ll even show them the back of my camera to get a feel and reaction for how they’re liking the shots.
I’m a perfectionist….and sometimes, I feel like I’m learning more than just photography. I’m learning how to style, pose, and interact. I’ve even learned a bit about hair, makeup, and all sorts of quick fixes to “make it work.”
And somewhere along the way, the brides and their families become friends. Haylie and her sister Addie are both working with me for their weddings. Amelia grabbed this shot during Addie’s wedding, and it makes me smile. I have no idea what Haylie and I were talking about, but I love the comfort that we have with each other. 🙂
…..Sorry Mrs. Karen, they gave us permission to stand on your furniture…… 🙂
At weddings, I love running into friends…..
…..and I love making new friends. And working with new vendors….
After the weddings over, it’s always so fun to watch the couples I work with grow in love accomplishing huge feats like Summar + Stewart are doing with their mission work.
….Every now and then, I’ll jump into the photo booth.
I hope you enjoyed this Behind the Scenes post. And I like that it’s allowed me to reminisce on the many many memories I’ve had with so many wonderful people!
Live Simply, Love Freely,
Catherine
