A Million Miles in a Thousand Years
….I am a business book junky.
I really do love business. I love the challenge of growing and becoming better at all that I do…not only in my business, but in my craft and my character. This is the second book I’ve read in Dane Sander’s series of Fast Track Photographer books and to be honest…I’m hoping he’ll come with another! I read a TON of books and Dane’s writing is SO easy to follow! I find myself picking up my iphone every spare second to read on my NOOK app. 🙂
The book Fast Track Photographer Business Plan focused on things like strengthening your identity as a business, becoming organized, and creating a true vision of your future. Dane believes that “…by ignoring what everyone else is doing and building a business that stands apart“…you are creating a path to success.
I have been contemplating for a long time the idea of outsourcing tasks of my business. After hearing Jasmine Star, Zach + Jody Gray, Justin + Mary Marantz, and Dane discuss time and time again about focusing on what’s imperative and most important for me as a business owner…I am finally convinced. I have been pleased thus far with Shootdotedit and I plan to integrate them even further into my business and my post-processing. Also, I absolutely love Forbeyon as my album vendor and I have been thoroughly impressed with their design skills. These are just a few of the changes I’ve made in the past few months. I’m also SO excited about my newly released website, my first promo video, and finally getting settled into my office.
I’m sure we’ve all heard it…”You work for yourself, so you have freedom“….And as Dane put it the average small business owner only knows their internal response to be: “Freedom to work 24 hours a DAY!!!!” This book is the path to living a better life for yourself and becoming a better business person for your clients. I highly recommend it.
And lastly, I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes from the book and probably one of the most powerful statements Dane made: “The secret of success is being willing to do what it takes to make sure customers are happy. There is no internal business task that can take the place of that.”

Beautifully put Catherine! I am a big advocate for Dane’s books here in the UK. They are well worth reading.
