In our spare time, we enjoy roaming the aisles of Barnes & Noble. It was the end of last week and we were enjoying our weekly date night. Brad and I both love Barnes & Noble, but for different reasons………I love the books, and he loves the coffee!!!!! π
Usually, I can get him fairly interested when we pass through the Art + Architecture section and sometimes we’ll flip through architecture books, dreaming of living in a modern flat someday in the future. Last Thursday, I was (as always) on the hunt for a new read….in the business section. I have said it before, but I am a huge business book finatic. For someone who went to art school, I have a crazy passion for business.
As we turned the corner, my eye caught a book that I finished the week before and I decided to share it with Brad. Interestingly enough, it is the perfect mixture of Art AND business titledΒ THE WAR OF ART…..and I hoped he would give it a chance. What happened next, blew my mind. Brad started reading the first page, and for the next 2 hours, he didn’t even look up! I tried everything to get his attention, but he kept reminding me that he was reading!!!!! I couldn’t believe it.
The loudspeaker came on, announcing that it was 15 minutes till close, and still Brad hadn’t said a word since he started reading. As we walked toward the front of the store, he raved about his readings. “My head hurts because I was so into that book!” ….”This is one of the most interesting reads”……”I feel like this is exactly what I needed to read today; I think it was written for me.” π π π
Needless to say, I think he enjoyed the book; and I did too.
The book talks a lot about Resistance and overcoming all forms of procrastination and fear. As an artist…as a professional in any field, I would have to guess that everyone has experienced this feeling at least once in their lives. For those like me, you experience it more often than not. This book really spoke to me and forced me to challenge myself all over again. Below is one of my favorite excerpts from the book:
“Resistance is directly proportional to love.
If you’re feeling massive Resistance, the good news is, it means there’s tremendous love there too.
If you didn’t love the project that is terrifying you, you wouldn’t feel anything.
The opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference.”
If you’d like to check the book out for yourself, I encourage you to do so!!! You can find the book online here. ENJOY! π
