The first time I heard the word “blog,” naturally, I had no idea what it meant. I was internet surfing, browsing portfolios and I came across the word. The first blog I visited belonged to a photographer I still admire, and I fell into their world.

I once heard photographer Jasmine Star say that “The website is your handshake and the blog is your hug.” So….here’s a big ole hug for you. πŸ˜‰

Since I first started my blog, I’ve done a lot of writing. I’ve written about every couple since I made the commitment to do so, every engagement session and every bridal session. At one point during the redesign of my website, my designer thought they accidentally erased all my previously written posts. At the time, I had just under 250 posts. Surprisingly, the posts that I felt most heartbroken about losing were the ones where I felt I used the post to think and grow as a person, to learn as a photographer, and the personal posts about my family or my friends.

My blog has become so many things to me. A way for sharing, for releasing, and for connecting. Lately, I’ve been entranced by the Problogger books and it’s pushed me to really think about what I’m writing. It’s made me think about who I’m writing for, and the purpose of these posts.

And so, for 2012, I have a few new goals for this blog:

  • Share useful information to other photographers in the industry.
  • Relay the stories and the photos of the clients I work with for their sessions & their wedding day.
  • Provide tips and guidelines for brides and wedding planners searching for photographers.
  • Review and give my opinion on photo equipment and photography tools.
  • Write Personal Stories that I will look back on and remember.
  • Recommend Venues & Wedding Vendors

If there is something that’s not on this list that you would like to read in future posts, drop me a line or leave a comment in this post. There isn’t much that I am not willing to learn about and have a conversation regarding. I want this blog to become more of a conversation piece in 2012. I want it to be a place where I feel that I can challenge myself in a new arena: a place where I can share information and hope to create new relationships.

Just to think that only a little over a year ago, I didn’t even know what the word “blog” meant…and now, I’ve created a blog of my own. If you are someone who’s read my blog before and have seriously thought about setting up one of your own…but haven’t yet. Do it! πŸ™‚ Make it your goal for 2012 to be proactive enough to start your own blog. It truly is a fun experience….and one that you will learn from and treasure.

….That’s what I blog for anyhow. πŸ˜‰
